France bans Skinny-Thin Models

France bans Skinny Models
In an effort to combat anorexia, the National Assembly approved on Friday the prohibition of parades and fashion shoots of very thin and malnourished models. Agencies that encourage Anorexia could be punishable by one year in prison and a fine of 10,000 euros in France, under the approved law.

The amendment prohibits any person whose parade BMI is less than the scale defined by the High Authority for Health.

This measure because there are in France between 30,000 and 40,000 people with anorexia, mostly teenagers, and several studies have shown the impact of fashion on them.

The bill will be voted as a whole on Tuesday 14, then pass the Senate and, if that camera introduces new changes, will be subject to a consultation process on a joint committee composed of senators and deputies.
