NIGERIA: 2012 ABUJA CARNIVAL ABUJA IMAGES 2012

The Abuja Carnival 2012 tagged “Carnival of Peace and Harmony” was declared open by the first lady Diame Patience Jonathan. The theme of this year’s event, as approved by the Abuja Carnival Management Committee, is to reflect the nation’s current security challenges and the need to ensure peace and harmony among its people as a recipe for national transformation.

The opening ceremony which held at the Eagle Square in Abuja was preceded by a procession which commenced from Area 1, Garki, Abuja by contingents from participating states of the federation and visiting cultural troupes from Egypt, India, Trinidad and Tobago, China, South Africa, Cameroon, The Sudan, Botswana, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Ghana, and Senegal..

The carnival includes a chain of activities ranging from street carnival, children fiesta, cultural night as well as traditional food fair and bush bar, masquerade displays, boat regatta, command performance and contemporary music fiesta. The varieties of activities are so different, but intertwined and capable of holding the interest of spectators to the end of the four-day event.


The carnival is a celebration of Nigeria’s unity in diversity
